HIDDEN GEM – RYE HOUSE

One day I was walking down 17th Street in New York City and I glanced at the menu of a new young professional restaurant called Rye House.  I saw “Boiled Peanuts” on the menu and I instantly started salivating for this southern “side of the road delicacy.”  Boiled peanuts was a family treat from Savannah, Georgia. My Uncle Bubba spoiled me with these warm and salty peanuts as soon as my feet hit the ground from the airplane. Rye House has a rustic decor and thrives on gourmet comfort food. Grilled Cheese with Truffle oil? A killer ice cream sandwich — a must have. Comfort, boiled peanuts, and truffle oil. I’m so in!

BLAST FROM THE PAST – JIFFY POP

Just sayin’. . . Butter flavor, of course!

FRESHLY SQUEEZED – ADLER ADDICTION

A blend of Ruby Pink and White grapefruit makes this candle POP! The bright yellow glass vessel will brighten up any room! Last year I received two of these candles on the same night at my birthday dinner. Great minds think alike. Thanks, guys! I had to slowly burn out my last candle in anticipation to start using the new Adler addition to my home. WOW. The wonderful scent is like heaven. It is soft and dreamy. Even when the candle is not burning the glorious smell still permeates in the room. This candle is the signature scent of “SoulCycle,” the new trendy spin class haven in NYC. Thanks Jonathan for making a candle that is a breath of fresh air!

GRAMMY GIRL – ADELE

This girl has it all: grace, grandness and Grammys!  This DVD captures it all from The Royal Albert Hall in London.  Her concerts sell out in record breaking time.  Turn your living room into a grand ballroom and have the new Queen of Pop sing for you.  Her voice is Grammy Gold!

MUSIC MANIAC – BON IVER

Take a ride to rustic and strange new places. This album travels to many places such as “Calgary” and “Washington.” This mellow vibe is so smooth and soothing that you feel like you are floating in a swimming pool.  There are also traces of modern technology mixed with classic instruments like piano and guitar.  Justin Vernon’s whisper feels so soft and beautiful.  Great music to take this journey and ride the rapids.

HIDDEN GEM – HOTEL TORTUGA

Anyone who is a fan of fish tacos needs to check into this restaurant. It is not a hotel but a tilapia taco heaven.  They are out of this world.  This cheap and cheerful eatery is so authentic that you will absolutely love the food and the prices.  The guacamole is also a must!  This gem is really hidden on E14th Street.  You can easily miss it.  It looks like an average take-out but inside it is adorable and has great music playing from this family-owned iPod.  No need to over pay for the new trend in tacos.  This is the real deal!

APE CRAZED – RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

James Franco just keeps popping up in all types of movies.  I’m sure you all missed this one (so did I!).  It did get very favorable reviews, but was in and out of the theaters in a flash.  Now available on DVD.  I’m very curious since I was a fan of the original series of movies from the 70′s.  Why would they cover up such a pretty face such as James?  Bananas!

TREAT OF THE WEEK – LIP SERVICE

This week it is “All About Lips.”  This smooth and silky light cream from Clinique is perfect to glide on your lips to increase a satin finish and also to diminish creases and lines.  Peeps, this is not a ordinary lip balm!  It is not even a balm.  This product is a neat compact pump that keeps its neat and clean.  I was given this wonderful simple and sweet gift from someone who was “All About Lips” on their mind.  It seems to be contagious.

NEON BIBLE – SKULL STYLE

Books, Books, Books, Skulls and more Skulls.  The fashion world is still obsessed with this long-lasting trend and so am I!!  Skull Style is a new book with a cover designed by the famous bad-boy of cashmere Lucien Pellat- Finet.  Remember his sweaters with skulls and marijuana leaves woven into them?  This book has three different covers, and I’m crazy about the neon-camo version.  This tomb seems mesmerizing and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.  Skulls are cool and everyone knows it.  Black is where it’s at!

WHO SCREAMS FOR ICE CREAM?!

Spring 2012 is around the corner and our first big snow storm has not even happened yet.  The seasons seem to be on a wacky merry-go-round.  Marc Jacobs of Louis Vuitton showed his Spring/Summer collection on a life-size carousel.  Off the white horses came the parade of Pastel Princesses.  The advertising campaign by Steven Meisel is soft and sweet, yet bold and graphic.  Pointy Metal Tips on the elegant shoes are parading around this soft toned town.  All I can say is REFRESHING.
