APE CRAZED – RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

James Franco just keeps popping up in all types of movies.  I’m sure you all missed this one (so did I!).  It did get very favorable reviews, but was in and out of the theaters in a flash.  Now available on DVD.  I’m very curious since I was a fan of the original series of movies from the 70′s.  Why would they cover up such a pretty face such as James?  Bananas!

TREAT OF THE WEEK – LIP SERVICE

This week it is “All About Lips.”  This smooth and silky light cream from Clinique is perfect to glide on your lips to increase a satin finish and also to diminish creases and lines.  Peeps, this is not a ordinary lip balm!  It is not even a balm.  This product is a neat compact pump that keeps its neat and clean.  I was given this wonderful simple and sweet gift from someone who was “All About Lips” on their mind.  It seems to be contagious.

NEON BIBLE – SKULL STYLE

Books, Books, Books, Skulls and more Skulls.  The fashion world is still obsessed with this long-lasting trend and so am I!!  Skull Style is a new book with a cover designed by the famous bad-boy of cashmere Lucien Pellat- Finet.  Remember his sweaters with skulls and marijuana leaves woven into them?  This book has three different covers, and I’m crazy about the neon-camo version.  This tomb seems mesmerizing and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.  Skulls are cool and everyone knows it.  Black is where it’s at!

WHO SCREAMS FOR ICE CREAM?!

Spring 2012 is around the corner and our first big snow storm has not even happened yet.  The seasons seem to be on a wacky merry-go-round.  Marc Jacobs of Louis Vuitton showed his Spring/Summer collection on a life-size carousel.  Off the white horses came the parade of Pastel Princesses.  The advertising campaign by Steven Meisel is soft and sweet, yet bold and graphic.  Pointy Metal Tips on the elegant shoes are parading around this soft toned town.  All I can say is REFRESHING.

BLAST FROM THE PAST – MR.MAGOO

This “busybody” Mr. Magoo was one of the cartoons that flooded my youthful mind after school.  I think I just loved saying his name.  Mr. Magoo – The Television Collection was just released and if you are inclined to, then go for it!  Who was Mr. Magoo?  What was Mr. Magoo and who does he think he was?  This little man with large thick glasses was voiced by Jim Backus.  Colorful and flamboyant, Mr. Magoo was innovative and stayed on top from 1960-1977.  Magoo Who?

BUFFALO GUYS GO ROUND THE OUTSIDE

I’m just loving the Urban Lumberjack Look!  What makes this traditional look so now is this time around it is “Fitted and Slim.”  Rugged and Rough is the look but Sleek and Sexy is how you wear it.  Boots and bags and coats are the foundation of this look.  If this bag is too much of a plaid statement, then look for a red and black buffalo plaid shirt or jacket.  This Filson messenger bag is substantial and hot!  Filson has been making bags for miners since the gold rush.  This is so Americana!  Check Mate!

BETH DITTO IS FOXY!

Fashion’s Night Out is one of the biggest nights to go shopping in New York City in the Fall.  Every store has an event in order to get consumers to enter the door and spend some money!!  During this past FNO, I chose to go to the MAC Cosmetic store in Soho to see my favorite girl Beth perform a four song concert in the middle of the store.  It was packed with fans and she was stellar in her rainbow dress and sang for us all.  I quickly ran over to her and she grabbed me and made me blush.  We were instant buddies and this was a thrill to be remembered.  Certainly worth the cost of make up!

2012 KICK START: LADY GAGA

I am constantly asked by people to help them shop and buy gifts for themselves and others.  I guess I look like a walking catalog.  Anyway, I just recommended this book as a impressive gift for the music and photography lover.  I tested this book out myself and purchased it on Amazon for an amazing low price!  I expected a small-to-medium size book.  I received a very large, oversized coffee table book of amazing photos of Gaga taken by Terry Richardson who is the “man- boy wonder of fashion photography.”  Terry is total downtown edgy!   What a perfect collaboration. This is a wonderful, candid look into the crazy and kooky world of The Lady.  Terry’s lens captures it all while keeping with his raw and of the moment signature style. This twosome is a not a bad romance, a gorgeous one with a capital G.

SILVERFOX LIVE

Seeing live music is one of the joys in life of the Silver Fox.  It is a treat to hear the music come alive and to feel the energy of many of the wonderful performers I have been fortunate to see.  The past month has been a British Bombshell of great music.  I would like to share some photos of my Brit Week:

Bryan Ferry – a chameleon classic.

Portishead – first show in 11 years.

Ladytron – on tour to promote “Gravity the Seducer.”

BLAST FROM THE PAST – PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE

The year is 1974.  Who remembers this obscure movie staring Paul Williams? Remember the funny looking man with blond hair?  Don’t ask me why I was so afraid of this rock thriller.  Anything with rock music in the 70′s was cool but this?  Brian De Palma directed, but who cared about him back then.  Was this a new Phantom of the Rock Opera?  I saw that this was being shown in Brooklyn at BAM and I immediately went under the covers and put in ear plugs.  The DVD might be a great joke gift for the holidays.  I might even want to watch it!
