WHO ARE YOU? JOHNNY WEIR… “I am what I am”

Boys just want to have fun, and that is exactly what Johnny boy is doing. I recently watched his new documentary show on the Sundance channel, and loved this guys “moxie”. He is very talented on the ice. We all know that, but what a rule breaker. Did he ever skate to “I am what I am”? He is a trail blazer in his industry and a great role model. Keep up the good work. There are no judges in this world, only on ice.

TREAT OF THE WEEK

We all need a reminder that spring is on it’s way…

I’m going to rush and buy a beautiful orchid to brighten up my day and decor. This chic plant (think walking into a Calvin Klein world) is difficult to care for but is worth the work. Even try replanting in a minimal square vase with blk or white small rocks. It will make all the difference. Don’t over pay for orchids. You can find them in places like Trader Joe’s and other grocery stores (just replant!), or if in New York go the the flower district for a wonderful selection. Enjoy and spring will be in your home before you know it.

DIRT BAG

The winner this season for best spring 2010 fashion advertising goes to Louis Vuitton. First of all, who doesn’t love Lara Stone? I featured her in my Who Are You? section a few months ago. The Vuitton enchanted forest is filled with hope and love birds. Who knew that dirt could be this sexy! Stone cold sexy. By the way, lets get real…$3,000 handbags thrown in the dirt!! What women would do that? Anything for fashion!!

SPLURGE GALORE- GOYARD On The Go!

All my friends have been asking me for years, where I got my smart little “wallet”. All I carry is this Goyard card case with a few credit cards ,drivers license , and some handy “Silver Fox In The City” business cards. Boys, money goes in the front pocket. We don’t want large wallets that add extra weight to our worked out frames. You can also get this personalized with your initials so you know its yours at all times. I’ve had mine for 4 years now, and it gets worn and better with age. Barney’s and Bergdorfs get ready !! The boys are coming. Great for girls too. They may come in pink!

WHO ARE YOU? Hunter Parrish

This is someone you should know about and watch his career grow. His talent and good looks will take him lots of places. This Texan I first noticed in the show “Weeds”. I then saw him in the Broadway show” Spring Awakenings”. This boy can sing! What a powerful and beautiful voice. I was very surprised. He just was in the film” It’s Complicated” staring Meryl Streep.  He has blond ambition!!

HIP TO BE SQUARE- Adrianne’s Pizza Bar

Wobble on down to the cobble stone street to STONE STREET in the Financial District to this wonderful pizza bar. We all know by now that pizza is cool again. This is not really a bar but a great place filled with fresh old fashion square pizza. It is the best I have tasted in awhile. Remember Ray’s Pizza in the village after nights of “clubbing”. Square is where it’s at!

Don’t you hate it when your friends become successful!

Not in this case… Just read the book “Just Kids” by Patti Smith. This recollection of her friendship with Robert Mapplethorpe is all about how these two kids in New York with no money working in book stores, stayed true to their passions. The race to become successful was part of how they lived there lives. We all know that they both are a genius in their craft. I was lucky to hear Patti speak and sing at Barnes and Noble to promote the book. She reads like she sings and sings like she reads. What remains in my head is “Robert would be so happy you all came to this”. Read on…..

SONGS FOR THE LADY

I had a dream…. Lady gaga would sing cover versions and the list would go like this:

Lady Stardust- David Bowie
Tiny Dancer- Elton John
Nightclubbing – Grace Jones
My Lady Story- Antony and the Johnsons
Hero Worship- The B-52’s
Lady Madonna- The Beatles
Somebody To Love- Jefferson Airplane
Wuthering Heights- Kate Bush
Dress You Up- Madonna

And of course:
Radio Gaga- Queen

Music Maniac- The XX’s

X marks the spot for these new kids on the block from Britain. I’m in love with this cd. The boy-girl trio makes smooth music with an edge. New Order, The Cure, etc are some of the influences you may hear, but believe me they have their own sound. I will be attending their gig in March and can’t wait to hear this new promising band. Its not all doom and gloom.

BAT-MOBILE BABY

These wonderful watercolors by artist Mark Chamberlain sets a new twist to the classic Batman and Robin animation. The colors emerge into a witty and also romantic body of works. Who ever thought that Batman and Robin would become more than just friends? It happens! I own two of these watercolors and they are available through Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts. The images are highly collectible and become addicting. I grew up watching every episode of Batman. I just love this new take on the boys!!
