She is my Sexy Mama, Spiritual Mother, I’m so proud of Laura. Her voice and soulfulness is so soothing and has helped me get thru many difficult times. I remember seeing her perform at The Bottom Line in NYC many times. These memories will stay with me forever. At the time I didn’t realize what magic it was and how I would never see my idol again. I will cherish all her songs and performances and memories of playing her albums in my room growing up. My sisters had these records and it was a huge influence on my life. I didn’t quite understand Laura at such a young age, but I knew it was special and her voice spoke to me. Thank you, Laura and we love you and will always remember you!!

I’m not familiar with this lady. What happened to her?
Well, if this woman influenced you in any way, she must have been very special! Sorry for her loss!
Laura was, one of my all time faves, and I am still moved when i hear her. The richness and as you said soulfullness of her voice are unlike any other. And although she has been gone for many years, she is still being discovered, and thanks to your post, maybe more will be inspired by her as well…
I just heard Laura Nyro for the first time just a few months ago. She has since quickly taken over as my all time favorite Musical Artist. Her songs are amazing, her piano playing is enchanting, and her voice is absolutely the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard. I can’t understand why they never played her on the radio. Yea, I know they played other Artists doing covers of her songs, and they played other Artists who were influenced by her – but they didn’t play HER – and that ticks me off! No one else has ever performed Laura Nyro songs with anywhere near the passion, heart, and soul that Laura herself put into them. It makes me sad to think that I would have definitely been there for her as a devoted fan, gone to her shows, and bought her albums when she was still with us, had I but known of her genius.
