I recently learned about Alex Prager from the Museum of Modern Art – New Photography 2010. She is based in Los Angeles and is a self-taught photographer. Her works are darkly playful with cues from pulp fiction and also very cinematic. She is someone to know about and watch for. She is now directing small films and also shooting upcoming fashion advertising campaigns. Her work is getting more and more collectible. Her photos make me smile with anticipation…

With a little help from my friend, he always updates me with the new “it girl”. If you remember my postings on Lara Stone, well now look at Calvin Klein’s advertising. Next goes to Freja. She is the new face in many of the fall campaigns. I instantly was head over heels in love. You know I’m a rock -n- roller and Freja has the “Keith Richard’s” look going on. Her dark care free shag is the all the rage. She is “shattered all over Manhattan”. This fall is all about Freja.

Most of you know who Herb Ritts was, but recently I was talking with some new friends and I was shocked that Herb Ritts was not a common house hold name. I immediately felt I need to include him in my “who are you?” section. The photographer Herb Ritts was my idol in the years 1987- 1990. These years he produced much of his signature works. He also put out many books. I also started my photography collection around that time with a SPLURGE on a RITTS. MY friend pushed me into it and I never regretted it. My collection blossomed in the years to follow. I still only have one Ritts, but I do have almost all his coffee table books. He past away from AIDS, but his work will carry on. Please run and check it out. The beauty of his work will never be forgotten.

Austrian-born and notorious inventor of the “monokini”. He was the bathing suit king who pushed the fashion envelope with his futuristic designs. Vogue featured his controversial thong bathing suits in 1975 captured by photographer Helmut Newton. I recently saw a play called “The Temeramentals”. It takes place in the 1950’s where a young Rudi was starting one of the first Gay Rights movements in California. The history of this play and the fashion twist of Rudi’s flamboyant personality kept my interest. Go for a dip of nostalgia.

I first discovered this very interesting photographer when she had a enormous show at The Guggenheim Museum. Her photos use brave colors and subjects that are extremely REAL. She often likes to take photos of the gay, lesbian and trans leather community. Her recent show at Gladstone Gallery is called “Girlfriends”. I recently went to the opening and alot of her fans seem to have walked out of her photos hanging on the wall. Live, Action, Camera!!

Boys just want to have fun, and that is exactly what Johnny boy is doing. I recently watched his new documentary show on the Sundance channel, and loved this guys “moxie”. He is very talented on the ice. We all know that, but what a rule breaker. Did he ever skate to “I am what I am”? He is a trail blazer in his industry and a great role model. Keep up the good work. There are no judges in this world, only on ice.

This wonderful photographer makes nature look so clean and neat. His gorgeous photos of animals are calm, and cool. Since I am a lover of lions, tigers, and bears, oh my, I ran to the exhibit “A Shadow Falls” at the Staley- Wise Gallery in New York. This is the 2nd show of his complete works. Don’t miss it. He also has 2 wonderful coffee tables. Let Nick’s kingdom become yours!

About two years ago I walked into a gallery and noticed these striking photos of children. Erie, surreal, yet beautiful. I recently was going through my many books, and found the L.LUX book. I am still amazed at the wonderful but spooky photos. Loretta Lux reminds me of dark shadows where beauty and imagination wrap themselves together into a cerebral puzzle.

I just discovered this new artist. Everyone is talking about his work…from Miami to New York..this artist is HOT! I want to know more. His wonderful art leads you to a dreamy land of make believe. I do not think he has a coffee table book out yet, but I’m sure there is one in the making. I will run to have his fantasy become mine!
