70’s Flashback. I was scouting the bargain bins in Barnes and Noble, and the CD cover of the band YES caught my eye. I immediately ran to the counter. I was mesmerized by the glowing green art work on the cover. I then had a flash back of a coffee table book I had(I didn’t even have a coffee table back then). The artist is Roger Dean. I never forgot his name. His magical rock art was gleaming from many of the albums I collected. Rock can be Art…Art can be Rock !!
Depeche Mode made New York’s Madison Square Garden their home last week for two evenings. I was lucky to attend this concert. This group I have been following since 1982. They are still as emotional as ever and have paved the way for so many bands. The most touching moment was the song- HOME:

I’m sure you never heard of Ms. Hallmark. She has many identities, comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometime can be very hard to spot in a crowd .I tend to see her running incognito into strores, post offices, and Duane Reade. Her thoughts and feeling she wears on her sleeves. What a night… Does everyone know what “channeling ” means? Well, this was a great example. On a wonderful summer night I went down to Battery Park to see this very talented performer John Kelly sing from the Joni Mitchell songbook. Woodstock this was not!! FYI, Joni was not at Woodstock anyway. John was dressed in full 70’s hippie garb and he sang almost the entire “Court and Spark” album. His version of Joni’s music is not only a tribute, but also a beautiful rendition of her wonderful songwriting and magical voice. His passion for his idol was “channeled” loud and clear.

The cover of this break through Blondie record was so visual when it came out. I was obsessed with the black and white stripes and the bold graphic quality. This is a fun summer CD to get into again. This is a classic with a twist. It is punchy and pop. I’m so used to hearing these songs from my vinyl days, that now hearing it on headphones via an iPod, the sounds is as fantastic as ever. Go Blonde!!!
