TREAT OF THE WEEK: Colour my World

picture-8
For some this may sound strange…that I would even consider postage stamps a “treat”. I love, love to buy all different novelty stamps. It is worth it. Dare to be diffferent. I almost freaked with these vivid Simpson stamps. They just made me laugh and smile and feel like sending cards (not checks) to the world. They can be ordered by mail or you can take a trip to your local post office. Yes they still exist. Just ask for Bart please.

MUSIC MANIAC: The boys are back in town!

NOW

picture-6Pet Shop Boys: Yes, 2009

Leave it to the boys to have a graphic image and a graphic message: YES. We all need some Yes in our lives. Talk about “positive”. These boys are like the energizer bunny, they keep on going. This new CD (I recommend buying the deluxe 2 disc set from Amazon) is fun bouncy and pure pop for now. With all the 80’s fashion on its way, why not get into some sythn. Many of these songs were written for Kylie to sing but ended up back to the boys. Go get some YES for your ears.

THEN

Kylie Minogue: Fever, 2002

Sythn out with Kylie. This fun and bouncy sexy CD brings back nights of clubbing and pure pop. This idol is not what you think…She’s the European dance diva. The pet shop boys are a fan and so am I!

100% Polyester: John Waters

Most of you know his films, but for many years now Johnny has been putting out some fantastic art. His latest show is now on view at the Marianne Boesky Gallery until May 2nd. Don’t miss this show…It is Mr. Waters at his best. Since we are all huge fans of his films, his art has the same appeal and you can own it. This way you can have Waters 24-7 on your wall!! I have one from a previous show, so go get one!  Talk about splurge galore!! The value will only go up even in this crazy world. Water’s world is always 100%.

HIDDEN GEM: Barbarini-Front Street

picture-5

The only way to describe this new find is as a “hidden gem”.  Just when I thought i knew every street in the city, I discovered some great places down on FRONT STREET. This tiny block near the south street seaport is full of charm and great food. There are a number of hot food spots but back behind the italian gourmet shop is this tiny eatery called Barbarini. You feel like Italy just took over Manhattan. Can’t wait to go back!!

WHO ARE YOU? Ryan McGinley

picture-2

About a year ago, I discovered this photography show from this artist who followed Morrissey on tour and took these rather colorful and phychedelic pictures. Seeing one of my idols in this artistic frame, made me want to know more about this Ryan guy. Also why were the prices of these photos so pricey for a unknown? Little did I know, Ryan McGinley is one of the hottest new artists on the scene. His work is hardly ever up for auction. His pictures are dream like and ethreal.I want one!!!

P.S. I guess Marc Jacobs is a fan too since Ryan is in all of his men’s collection ads this spring. Only those “in the know” will know who this man photographed with a shoe on his head is. Duh!

I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR

no-1-ladies-detective-agency

All of Africa is roaring over this exciting new series on HBO. Based on the novels of the same name, this new series takes place in Botswana and is one of the quirkiest shows I have seen in awhile. The concept alone is so absurd, yet original, that is draws you in immediately. You almost can’t tell if it is serious or funny. The woman factor here is No. 1…Helen Ready would have loved this show!  It also comes with a token hilarious secretary with glasses.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: The Great Gazoo

gazoo

Ground control to the Great Gazoo. Seeing this image recently made me remember this funny little martian. I decided to start a new section called Blast from the Past, literally a BLAST. Who remembers The Flintstones? Who knew the voice of the zany character was Harvey Korman. I always loved when this original “mini-me” popped on to the screen. Talk about going green.

MUSIC MANIAC: MORRISSEY in CARNEGIE

I tell everyone that I don’t do reviews, but I did promise I would let you know about this extravagant  event. This concert was one I will remember for ever. It was rock and roll at its best. In honor of Morrissey and The Smiths, I decided to do a list (yes I happen to love lists, all kinds!) of my favorite titles.

It was impossible to do a top 10 from 25 years of songwriting so it became:
MY TOP 20 Morrissey Song Titles( I hope you enjoy)…

FYI, this is not a set list

1-something is squeezing my skull
2-everyday is like sunday

Go green with the fresh smell of Kiwi. Spring has sprung so treat yourself to some of these great FC5 products from ARBONNE. The Death of the Plastic Jewelcase

picture-14

For those of you who know me and my large wooden armoire, you know that I’ve been buying CD’s by the tons for years.  This is why the Virgin Mega-Store has been my 2nd home for years. The sad news of this utopia of music closing in the next few months makes me realize that the plastic jewel case will soon be forgotten…just like the cassette tape, the eight track and of course vinyl. Music will be bought almost exclusively on line. Apple better get ready!!  The silverfox is coming.
