DUFFLE DUDE

Hey boys, have you heard about the new shape in bags?  It’s not the messenger, the tote or the backpack, but the DUFFLE. Get into this utilitarian military inspired bag.  I love the olive green cotton canvas with the rich chocolate leather trim.  This bag is great for the beach, the track, the gym or the field.  No need to hunt anymore for a new chic bag, go to Mr. Porter.com and shop the brand APC who are known for clean designs made out of sturdy quality materials.  I’m ready to sign up!

SILVERTUBE – ELLIE GOULDING – “Your Song”

If I was a sculptor… This is a beautiful version by Ellie Goulding who is the new Wonder kid from the UK.  Number 1 for weeks over there and now a breakthrough here.  I have seen her in concert twice and this girl can sing.  A little Kate Bush, a little Joni, but she has her own fresh spin. A nice take on a beautiful song by Elton John.

SILVERFOXY – KENNY ROGERS

I am so not a fan BUT recently someone mentioned his name and I said “Hey, he is one of the original ‘Silver Foxes!'”  I decided to make him my second posting as a SILVERFOXY.  I know he has many fans from his country music to his movies.  I kind of missed the hype, but all I know is that this man has a full thick head of hair and a knockout beard full of some Silver Fox!!

THE REAL DEAL – PATTI SMITH 1969-1976 – Photographs by Judy Linn

This book is the real deal! Gritty and visionary, fragile and tough.  The photographer Judy Linn takes some wonderful photos that captures this time frame in the life of Patti Smith.  Each photo tells a story and you feel like you are inside at the location.  The photos detail the landscape so well, that you understand the time and place and frame of reference.  Robert Mapplethorpe appears in over 12 photos as well which is a wonderful addition to telling the reader about this period in the 70’s.  Patti writes the afterword to this book and gives you a deeper understanding.  I was lucky to see this exhibit at Feature Gallery and purchase the last signed book by both Judy and Patti.  It made my day!

MUSIC MANIAC – CUT/COPY – ZONOSCOPE

NOW: CUT/COPY- ZONOSCOPE (2011)

Get ready to feel good. Cut/Copy’s new album is again one of the best of 2011.  Every track from start to finish is upbeat.  Rhythm and Rhyme bounce throughout the record with electronic sounds and crisp production.  Multi-layered dance tracks make you feel in an eighties mood.  A lot of music these days seems to channel that era but still bring a new approach to the feel good music of the dynasty era.  Tingle and get a bit tribal with these new beats.

THEN: TALKING HEADS – FEAR OF MUSIC  (1979)

Who remembers this record?  The stark cover was debossed to show texture of manhole covers of New York City.  This was produced by Brian ENO giving Talking Heads a new electronic sound that moves right into the new feeling of music that defines the eighties.  Electronics mixed with tribal beats is the new fresh sound that is now redefined by Cut/Copy.  This record for me in 1979 was the start of “new wave” and a whole new genre of greatness in the eighties.  Remember Black is Where it is At in New York City in 1980!

DELICIOUSLY SMOOTH – SAVON by DIPTYQUE

“Pour les Mains” – Now, I don’t speak French but I was able to figure that one out.  Every 3-4 months I replace my bathroom hand soap.  The bottle is key!  It has to match the towels, the season, the current trends in the world, the bath soap, etc.  (I think you get the point!) I have thought about buying a permanent pump and refilling with generic soap, but no way for the Silver Fox In The City. It is creative and interesting to try different brands and scents and smells. This month we are traveling to France. This delicious smooth soap has a slight fragrance which I don’t usually like on my hands but you know what?  It is always time to step out of the box.  I love the shape of the bottle and the elegance it exudes.  Hands up for Diptyque!

BLAST FROM THE PAST – THE ORIGINAL MISTER!

A Bow Tie, a Crisp Shirt and a Big Smile. How elegant and chic!  Lately the word “Mister” has been appearing on many of my texts.  Many of my friends lately have been calling me “Mister.”  So I went back to my past to find the one and only Mr. Softee Mister!  His theme song can be heard a block away.  When Mister Softee calls you run, Sir!

SILVERTUBE – GRACE JONES – THIS IS LIFE

All you Lady Gaga fans, It is time to get in touch with Miss Grace Jones.  This is a recent song she put out and a fan put together some images to go with it.  It is classic Grace.  Enjoy this Silvertube from the Silver Fox In The City.

WHO ARE YOU? – IVAN BART

I know Ivan Bart!  He is not only one of my best friends in the whole wide world for many many years, but he is also The Leader of the Modeling Industry.  Ivan and I always play this game where he tells me who I need to know about almost a year in advance.  Then I come to him a year later and say OMG this girl is huge.  She is in every campaign and on every runway.  He has been handpicking young models from all over the world for years and guiding their careers to superstardom.  He is also a great life coach to many of his clients.  Recently Ivan was interviewed in Industrie Magazine and his full page very handsome photo portrayed him as an expert in his field, and on top of his game.  Who’s on first Ivan?  We all are waiting to know!!

TALK ABOUT COLLECTING – HERB AND DOROTHY

As many of us know, New York City is filled with small apartments in all shapes and sizes. Herb And Dorothy were among those real New Yorkers that did not let size matter. They collected art and filled up every nook and cranny of this small apt. They loved art and the artists. He was a postal worker and she a librarian. We all know those salaries don’t buy you a Warhol, but it didn’t stop them from becoming world-class modern art collectors. They knew who to buy first and not to sell for the sake of profit. This fascinating DVD is worth viewing to learn about a different side of the art world. One most people didn’t know existed. They say “Buy What You Like,” and Herb and Dorothy did just that!
