Cuban with a C!

picture-11

Was it Ave A, B or C? I know it’s 12th St…I kept telling my friends as we walked and walked and walked to try to find CAFECITO, a authentic Cuban restaurant. Cheap Eats is always a good thing and the walk through alphabet city was worth the wait. Everyone was in joy to find a exciting menu and with great prices. Again beef was boss at the table.  The skirt steak (Cuban style of course) was a highlight  and this is a crowd pleaser for all.  I’ve already been there a few times with friends. Plantains are an A even if on C!!!

Turn your home into a nailhead tomb of chic. I stumbled on this leather based table lamp.  First it was all about white leather, but then it turned black. The black and silver combo lites up my life. This is a find!  A editors paradise. No need to look through catalogs and showrooms galore. This lamp will look great anywhere and the quality is amazing. Who said a good ‘ole table lamp can’t be SEXY?!?

Fiorucci, Banarama, and Rubber Bracelets…why is fall fashion obsessed with the 80’s?? The  current fall 2009 fashion shows were in sync.  One must ask was Gucci and Marc Jacobs drinking the same water? Did they both pull out their Psychedelic Furs, Blondie and Culture Club records? Does recession mean dress up and act crazy?  Its all Fun! Dayglo, Polka Dots and all…check out the colorful makeup and wild hair. Brings back flashbacks, not flashdance(the un-80’s)!

Who are you? Beth Ditto

Recently everywhere I go I either see, hear or read something about this chic chick. Her black bob and catchy name is easy to remember. She’s the lead vocalist for THE GOSSIP. This group is currently recording a new album that is really going to put her on the map. I cannot wait!! Is she the new bad girl of rock? The fashion world is obsessed and she has recently graced the cover of LOVE, the newest Brit glossie. It is about time our rock goddesses come in lots of shapes and sizes. She can certainly belt it out!!!

Matches seem so passe. We don’t want to burn our fingertips when lighting all of our chic candles to enlighten our decor. I hit on these chic candle lighters from Slatkin and Co.  A must have and at only $10, buy a few and give to friends. Everyone likes a TREAT these days. All three colors are great. The silver is hot as fire!!!!

Duncan Sheik- Whisper House (2009)

THEN

picture-21Nick Drake- Pink Moon(1970)

The latest release by Duncan Sheik (you know him from his Tony award winning musical Spring Awakening) is his latest storytelling concept. Comming to the stage soon I’m told, Whisper House is a beautiful journey of songs that brings you to foggy old Maine with old haunted lighthouses. This melodic and soft collection is one of his best. His Gorgeous Voice is one you MUST hear. I recommend you buy this only on iTunes since this is the only way to get Duncan’s cover version of The Ghost In You.

Remember the 80’s?!? Just as melodic and soft is the famous Pink Moon from Nick Drake. After listening to this you can see where Duncan started to cut his teeth. Nick’s soft and acoustic songs were a pre- sheik moment in time and I absolutly recommend both for a nice evening of soft gorgeous music. Nick passed away suddenly in the early 70’s , so maybe Duncan is channeling Nick with his Whisper House?? Remember to dim the lights and beware of ghosts.

Idol Eyes: Stevie Nicks

T1054033_04

It seems that many of my idols are from the 70’s. These idols are from my “formative” years. Yes, it was that era that consisted of my childhood memories. Listening to Fleetwood Mac in my bedroom brought comfort and excitment. Stevie Nick is the only women that could be a good witch and a bad witch. Her voice is like no other! Get ready for Fleetwood Mac Unleashed: Hits Tour 2009…coming to you this spring.

Listen to the wise winged Stevie!

Treat of the Week: A Piece of Tom

picture-12

Not everyone wants a piece of Britney….so how about a piece of Tom? You know Tom Ford. Since we probably can’t afford his $4,000 suits this week…month… or even sometime this century, I suggest you try this Tom Ford soap on a rope.

How 70’s of Tom to make a soap on a rope. This brings me back to my childhood. The $18.00 price tag may sound high for some, but give Dove a rest and TREAT yourself to this smooth wonderful fragrant soap. It’s the best (and cheapest) way to get a piece of Tom.

Check it Out!

It takes alot to get me to shop now, along with the rest of the world, but I will confess to being a shopaholic!  I have  been trying to be “on the wagon”, but i know Spring is on its way and I need new…now!! The image that came my way, through the Americana shopping catalog from Manhassett Long Island, my old stomping ground…I mean shopping ground is from Lacoste.

This is a must have…a staple.  Try a color or get it just how you see it. It is a new slim fitting style of a old classic, and its chic! The small gator is just enough to know without the horrid bite of a logo you wish crawled back into the swamp.  Click here to purchase!

A Black and White World of Chic

Take a trip to the International Center for Photography (ICP). This is one of my favorite museums. It doesn’t take hours to do, nor is it in a nose bleed part of town…it’s only at 42nd and 6th Ave.  The exhibit runs from from Jan 16-May 3rd and they are presenting two shows that are contrasts from different times and eras.  Black and white it is not!!  Well some photos are.  Two for the price of one.  Ying and yang.  Hard and soft (you’ll understand when you see the shows)!  I was impressed with the contrast of both shows. Go see it!!
