MUSIC MANIAC: ANNIE-Don’t Stop

The Swedish GAGA. I had to say it! Well not as imaginative costumes, but great POP music. She is the under rated diva on the current circuit. All you hear about is the others. Well if you want something different…  a little more electronic go for ANNIE. This is her 2nd CD and it really gets you going. I love her! She is sweet and sharp. Hey Annie, your “songs remind me of you”. This is some quality POP!

CANARY YELLOW- Tori Spelling

Tori, Tori, Tori…. I went to her book signing at Borders in The Time Warner Center. All I could see was a sea of YELLOW. The book jacket, her canary yellow dress, and tons of fans. She is known for her New York Times best sellers and here she goes again. She is adorable and I was able to speak with her…happy to report she is very “normal” and a sweet heart. Her book is about leading a “normal” life in Hollywood. Is there really such a thing? I want to find out !

SPLURGE GALORE: HIDE & SEEK-FALL/WINTER 2010

I am camo-crazed. I always was and always will be! This pattern/trend comes and goes and hides and then reappears. Get ready for Fall/Winter 2010! This print will be everywhere. I have not worn a backpack since the late 80’s. I’m ready only if it is in Camo! Prada Camouflage is the best. The coated material is rugged and durable. Ready for the army. It is sold out just about everywhere. I must go on the HUNT soon before they all get eaten alive by others. One, Two, Three, Go!!

WHO ARE YOU? HERB RITTS

Most of you know who Herb Ritts was, but recently I was talking with some new friends and I was shocked that Herb Ritts was not a common house hold name. I immediately felt I need to include him in my “who are you?” section. The photographer Herb Ritts was my idol in the years 1987- 1990. These years he produced much of his signature works. He also put out many books. I also started my photography collection around that time with a SPLURGE on a RITTS. MY friend pushed me into it and I never regretted it. My collection blossomed in the years to follow. I still only have one Ritts, but I do have almost all his coffee table books. He past away from AIDS, but his work will carry on. Please run and check it out. The beauty of his work will never be forgotten.

HORROR DRAG-Dina Martina

Anyone heading to P-Town this summer? You must go see Dina Martina perform. She lives in P-town for the summer and her shows are nightly. Last year I was greeted by her on the street giving out flyers for the show. I was like what type of crap is this?? Little did I know that this was cheerful and dark at the same time. She gives you gifts, but full of blood and poop. I have never heard such #$*&$*% up versions of rock classics from the 70’s. Chicago…Billy Joel…Alice Cooper… to Oasis’s “Wonderwall”! Don’t expect La Cage here! This is creative, funny and charming. I was lucky to catch her sold out shows in New York in June. She is my darling!!

MUSIC MANIAC

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE-LUNGS

NOW(2009)

This CD won a very prestigious award in London for best new artist. I completely understand why. If you have been reading MUSIC MANIAC for sometime you know I write a lot about music. This type of CD does not come around often. I’m obsessed with Florence. Her passion, voice and song writing is so unique and powerful! Every song has alittle bit of a different beat and attitude but it all screams Florence and the Machine. The title “Lungs” tells it all. It all comes from so deep inside that the lungs need to let it out and boy does she. This is a must…everyone I recommended this to has thanked me and is now in the Flo club.

SINEAD O’ CONNOR-THE LION AND THE COBRA

THEN(1987)

This debut CD from Sinead was so powerful and strong! We never heard a voice so passionate and beautiful at the same time. She was so interesting and unique. I thought that the Florence and the Machine CD mentioned above reminded me of this CD from the past. Mostly for the beauty and strength that both represent. They go together. Sinead uses her “lungs” to their capacity to sings songs such as Jackie, Troy, and Jerusalem. Check it out. This is one of the best debuts from one of the most gorgeous voices in rock music.

PORTRAIT OF A PREPPY

Preppy publisher Bill Clegg has written a book about his life as an addict. We all know that CRACK is WACK! Even Whitney knows that. I’m glad that Bill is ok and was able to get his feet on the ground to write his memoir. The light side meets the dark side. Ralph Lauren meets the crack pipe. Go Bill and continue with your sobriety! We are all routing for you.

ADDICTED TO THE 80’s

I have been addicted to the 70’s for some time. The music, the idols, the television shows, the fashion etc…but now it looks like the 80’s will be creeping up. This fall the house of Lanvin has recreated the Robert Palmer “Addicted To Love” video as part of their new ad campaign. The girls are fierce and full of fire on the pages of the glossy magazines. They are just missing the guitars and the guts of the originals slew of women. I’m ready! Are you?

TREAT OF THE WEEK- Legends of Hollywood Postage Stamps

Four Academy Awards later, one of Hollywood’s most fascinating and enduring stars, is now a fabulous postage stamp. I’m always looking out for novelty stamps and I almost freaked when I saw this black and white legend of Hollywood. It was so elegant and chic. Now paying the phone bill can be glamorous too. Treat yourself to some of these Katy stamps and your day will be more ambitious, energized, versatile, and elegant. Just like Ms. Hepburn.

TATTOO YOU

THE TATTOO SHOW: Curated by Kathleen Cullen and Christopher Hanway

The Center at 208 West 13th, New York, N.Y.

Summer Exhibition: June 3-Sept 8

Come see a vivid and expansive portrait of tattoo culture…

This show is very special to me even though I’m not inked. There will be very special art here from many wonderful and talented artists. I was involved in bringing some Rock and Roll to the show. It also includes work from Catherine Opie to Alana Dee Haynes (one of my personal favorites). Please come to support a wonderful cause. A world of fantasy and imagination.
