CAMO CRAZY Part II- ANDY WARHOL

It just keeps following me where ever I go.. Rush and check out Andy Warhol- The Last Decade at the Brooklyn Museum until Sept 12th. This show was a whole lot of eighties. Remember Diane Brill…. queen of the nightlife. Well she is interviewed on video as part of the show. It was great watching all the Warhol TV clips among others… Interview magazine covers galore. The first “oversized” magazine to hit the news stands. Think W, V, etc. they were all influenced by the large size format of Warhol’s Interview magazine. So totally eighties!! The art is also oversized…. Camo, Self Portraits, The Last Supper, and more. All in the most fashionable Warhol 80’s. These prints are not camouflaged!!

CANARY YELLOW- Tori Spelling

Tori, Tori, Tori…. I went to her book signing at Borders in The Time Warner Center. All I could see was a sea of YELLOW. The book jacket, her canary yellow dress, and tons of fans. She is known for her New York Times best sellers and here she goes again. She is adorable and I was able to speak with her…happy to report she is very “normal” and a sweet heart. Her book is about leading a “normal” life in Hollywood. Is there really such a thing? I want to find out !

PORTRAIT OF A PREPPY

Preppy publisher Bill Clegg has written a book about his life as an addict. We all know that CRACK is WACK! Even Whitney knows that. I’m glad that Bill is ok and was able to get his feet on the ground to write his memoir. The light side meets the dark side. Ralph Lauren meets the crack pipe. Go Bill and continue with your sobriety! We are all routing for you.

TATTOO YOU

THE TATTOO SHOW: Curated by Kathleen Cullen and Christopher Hanway

The Center at 208 West 13th, New York, N.Y.

Summer Exhibition: June 3-Sept 8

Come see a vivid and expansive portrait of tattoo culture…

This show is very special to me even though I’m not inked. There will be very special art here from many wonderful and talented artists. I was involved in bringing some Rock and Roll to the show. It also includes work from Catherine Opie to Alana Dee Haynes (one of my personal favorites). Please come to support a wonderful cause. A world of fantasy and imagination.

EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE- Ryan McGinley

I love everything about this new body of work by the photographer Ryan McGinley. I was lucky to go to the gallery opening–but the 3,000 people on the streets of Soho made it impossible to view the art. I went back a few weeks later when there were only 10 people around. A much better view. For those of you who missed the show, I would run and buy this limited edition book from Dashwood. Ryan’s books are very collectable! I was able to get mine personally signed by Ryan. Yes I have connections. It pays to be nice. The title of this work is named after a classic Neil Young record…I love that!! A conversation between Ryan and Catherine Opie starts out this wonderful collection of black and white photos.

Another Piece Of Tom

The DVD is coming. Pre- order now from Amazon.com so the day it comes out you will be hugging the postman for your piece of Tom. Most of you have seen this film this past December. I have to see it again. It has so much style and so much heart, that a second viewing is in order. The dancing scene between Colin Firth and Juliana Moore is genius. The song they dance to BTW is called “Green Onions” by Booker T. and The MG’s. I had to download it from iTunes after seeing the film. Escape into another part of Tom’s world.

MEAN SOBER: Chelsea Handler

I recently went to her book signing at Barnes and Noble for “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang”! Her fans were all out for this event. Who knew she had such a following? She refers to herself as “mean sober”. Her sharp tongue and quick wit can be seen on her show called “Chelsea Lately”. Make sure she has a cocktail at all times. I would not want to bump into her at a coat check before she has her cockail. Chelsea sober sounds terrifying. See you at the bar Chelsea!

COBB WEB: Photographmag.com

This is a great web site to find out what is going on in the photography world. Photographmag.com will keep you up to date with many exhibits an all the news you need.  They also publish a small magazine that is by subscription. I get this delivered to my mailbox every few months, and love the slim and luxurious format. Enjoy and discover this eye catching world of the camera.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (not in the city!)

I just can’t get enough of Meryl Streep! She has transformed into the voice of a female fox and she plays the role of the mother of the Fantastic Fox family. I ran to see this movie in the last theater that it was playing! It is now readily available on DVD. This “quirky” movie is really different and is based on the Roland Dahl children’s book. It is great for all ages and is rather mature. Beware of when the foxes eat their meals, it had me in stitches. It is not always sweet and sour, but sly and foxy!

EIGHT TRACK FLASH BACK: “THE RUNAWAYS”

Who ever thought to bring this story of this all girl rock band to the screen is my kind of person! This movie stars two young up and coming actresses, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning helping to recreate the story of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. The movie is a great period piece. A slice of the 70’s with alot of Bowie, black leather, and rock n roll. These tough chicks are empowered and driven to make it in the “boys world of rock”. How refreshing!!
