I think I’m turning Japanese, I really think so.. UNIQLO + J

This concept is not new: High end designer (Jil Sander) meets cool Japanese retailer (Uniqlo) = Sharp minimal well priced collection for the masses. I usually do not consider myself a mass shopper but this collection has grabbed me. Checkout on line www.Uniqlo.com to see the +J collection. I bought a tee shirt and a great nylon parka for way under $100.00 for both items. The design, quality, and details have surpassed all other collections and collaborations I have seen so far in this price range. When I wear my items I still feel like I walked off the runway.  Will Prada be next?  Who ever thought Jil Sander (the queen of minimalism) would design at this price point. GENIUS!!

I get this delivered to my mailbox every few months, and love the slim and luxurious format. Enjoy and discover this eye catching world of the camera.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (not in the city!)

I just can’t get enough of Meryl Streep! She has transformed into the voice of a female fox and she plays the role of the mother of the Fantastic Fox family. I ran to see this movie in the last theater that it was playing! It is now readily available on DVD. This “quirky” movie is really different and is based on the Roland Dahl children’s book. It is great for all ages and is rather mature. Beware of when the foxes eat their meals, it had me in stitches. It is not always sweet and sour, but sly and foxy!

IDOL EYES- GRACE SLICK

Alice, where are you? Did you fall down a rabbit hole under a tree? Having tea with a White Rabbit? After seeing the amazing “Alice in Wonderland” movie, I had to wonder where is Grace Slick? Why is she so quiet and timid?. She has been one of my favorite singers since Jefferson Airplane through the journey to the Jefferson Starship in the 70’s. I even used their album cover for a high school art project. How bohemian of me! She still one of the leading lady’s of rock. Her White Rabbit can be mine anytime. I never get tired of this song or her voice. She is the queen of Hearts in my eyes.

Blast from the Past: POLYESTER

Bargain Bin Basement. This is exactly where John Waters may expect his “pre-hairspray” masterpiece to show up. At $4.99 I could not resist to grab it immediately. I remember this movie featuring the amazing Divine as the bee hive queen. Seeing this in the movie theater with it’s “scratch and sniff” card  was like having 3-d but for the nose instead of the eyes. What a concept!  Although some smells were better than others…it is a John Waters movie. The card is still included in the reissue of this classic on DVD!

TREAT OF THE WEEK: LOVE, Volume 3

Love yourself and buy this third volume of this British import magazine–LOVE . As you know I have been collecting this magazine since it started. This time there are about 6 different cover models. It is hard to pick, I would go with the Brits- Kate or Naomi since it is a British publication. The pages of Love are like walking through a museum where creativity is dripping from the walls. At less than $20.00 this is a treat that you can sink your teeth in and display on your coffee table. Listen to Lennon and McCartney -” All you need is Love”…

EIGHT TRACK FLASH BACK: “THE RUNAWAYS”

Who ever thought to bring this story of this all girl rock band to the screen is my kind of person! This movie stars two young up and coming actresses, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning helping to recreate the story of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. The movie is a great period piece. A slice of the 70’s with alot of Bowie, black leather, and rock n roll. These tough chicks are empowered and driven to make it in the “boys world of rock”. How refreshing!!

DREAM POLICE-BEACH HOUSE

Baltimore is the home of this new dreamy band called simply Beach House. Their latest CD is called Teen Dream. I’m in love with this music. It has such a mellow vibe. Emotional music that just makes you float on a cloud. The entire album has the same mood which makes it nice even as background music as I write Silver Fox in The City. Occasionally the music sounds like a warped old record from your 70’s stereo. It then straightens out. Don’t worry, it is supposed to sound that way. Toasted mushy marshmallows on the bonfire music.

COMFORT FUR

It is hard to think about Fall 2010, but get ready! The Fall runway shows just occurred all over the world and there was one MAJOR MESSAGE- FUR! The recession has hit hard and I think everyone is feeling it, so why not wrap a animal’s fur around you for some comfort and warmth. It is Fur’s Ferocious Return.

SPLURGE GALORE: White Hot

As I was scrolling through the Bergdorf Goodman spring catalog, I was flashed by these Prada white leather hot wingtip shoes. The white leather with the wingtip detail and red bottoms looked so fresh. I have not been attracted to men’s shoes in a while. The action seems to be in the sneaker area now and not in shoes. The $595.00 splurge will probably go to half off sooner than you know. The “fear” of dirt can delay many potential buyers.  I think these may be around for some discount shopping.  You have to be daring to do white. Remember foxes can be sly not shy…
